Mr. Zhang Mugui, a 64-year-old male from Daqing, Heilongjiang Province, was diagnosed with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the esophagus at a local hospital after experiencing difficulty swallowing and food obstruction for approximately six months. Concerned about the potential adverse effects of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, he chose to take traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) locally for more than three months. However, his condition was not effectively controlled; instead, it continued to worsen, with progressively severe dysphagia that significantly impacted his quality of life. After learning about the distinctive characteristics and advantages of Jiaozuo Zhonghai TCM Cancer Hospital in the TCM treatment of esophageal cancer, he traveled a long distance to seek medical care in the hope of alleviating his suffering and halting disease progression.
At the time of consultation, his symptoms included difficulty swallowing, choking and coughing when drinking water, itchy throat, cough with difficult expectoration of white phlegm, chest tightness, hoarseness, fatigue, and a swollen lymph node in the right neck measuring approximately 6×5 cm. Bowel and bladder functions were normal, and sleep was acceptable. After a detailed assessment of his condition, Director Zhang formulated a treatment plan: an empirical TCM formula for esophageal tumors, modified according to his symptoms, combined with Hua’ai Xiaoliu Powder, along with inpatient comprehensive treatment incorporating the hospital’s “Wabo Therapy.”
After 17 doses of TCM and 4 sessions of “Wabo Therapy,” his condition improved significantly. Difficulty swallowing and choking/coughing when drinking water were notably relieved; itchy throat, cough, and difficult expectoration were all reduced. Chest tightness resolved, hoarseness improved, and fatigue lessened. Particularly noteworthy was the right cervical lymph node, which decreased in size from approximately 6×5 cm to 2×3 cm.
