Rectal Adenocarcinoma with Liver Metastasis: Condition Improved and Masses Shrunk After 20 Days of Medication

March 23, 2026

Ms. Zhao, a 55-year-old female patient from Jiyuan City, Jiaozuo, was diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma with liver metastasis at a local hospital one month ago. Her symptoms at that time included recurrent abdominal pain, frequent bowel movements with blood, and general malaise. After receiving this devastating news, Ms. Zhao and her family actively cooperated with the doctors and underwent two cycles of chemotherapy (oxaliplatin + bevacizumab + capecitabine), but the results were unsatisfactory. To make matters worse, the doctors informed her that her life expectancy might be only three months.
Faced with such a severe prognosis, Ms. Zhao and her family refused to give up and searched everywhere for new treatment options. A close friend told them about Jiaozuo Zhonghai TCM Cancer Hospital, which has accumulated rich experience in treating advanced tumors with traditional Chinese medicine. Many similar patients had achieved effective disease control and significant improvement in quality of life after systematic TCM treatment. With a glimmer of hope, Ms. Zhao came to our hospital accompanied by her family.
At the initial consultation, Ms. Zhao’s condition was critical:
• Severe general fatigue and excessive sweating
• Poor mental state
• Frequent dry cough and retching, which affected eating
• Distension in the lower abdomen and persistent left lower abdominal pain
• Frequent but small bowel movements
• Severe urinary frequency that disrupted sleep
• Severe anemia, for which she had received blood transfusions at a local hospital
After carefully evaluating her condition, Director Zhang believed that although the cancer had metastasized to the liver, there was still an opportunity to control tumor progression and improve quality of life through integrated Chinese and Western medicine. He formulated an individualized treatment plan:
• An empirical TCM formula for rectal tumors, modified according to her constitution, to strengthen vital qi, consolidate the root, invigorate the spleen, and resolve dampness
• Hua’ai Xiaoliu Powder to soften hard masses and inhibit tumor growth
• Continued chemotherapy at the local hospital to enhance anti-tumor effects, while TCM alleviated chemotherapy side effects
After 20 days of systematic treatment, Ms. Zhao’s condition showed encouraging improvements:
• Abdominal pain and distension were significantly reduced
• Sleep quality improved
• Bowel movements decreased in frequency, and bloody stools were relieved
• Fatigue and excessive sweating diminished
• Mental state improved
• Appetite increased
• Dry cough and retching almost completely disappeared
Most importantly, a follow‑up examination at the local hospital showed that both the rectal and liver tumors were shrinking. This result brought new hope to Ms. Zhao and her family and strengthened their confidence in further treatment.

Currently, Ms. Zhao continues to receive integrated Chinese-Western treatment, and her condition remains stable and improving. She said with deep emotion:
“I originally thought I only had three months left. I never imagined that with treatment at Jiaozuo Zhonghai TCM Cancer Hospital, my symptoms would improve so much and my tumors would shrink. This has given me the hope to keep living.”
