Mr. Wu Mouzheng, a 71-year-old male patient with lung squamous cell carcinoma, resides in Taiqian County, Puyang City, Henan Province. Three months ago, he was examined at a local hospital due to a persistent cough and chest tightness, and was diagnosed with lung squamous cell carcinoma. Because of his advanced age and multiple underlying medical conditions, he was deemed unable to tolerate surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy after a comprehensive evaluation. Upon the recommendation of relatives and friends, he came to our hospital on February 18, 2025, seeking traditional Chinese medicine treatment.
At the time of consultation, his main symptoms included frequent coughing, yellowish phlegm with streaks of blood, chest tightness and shortness of breath that worsened with activity, and occasional palpitations. His appetite, sleep, and bowel and bladder functions were relatively normal. After carefully assessing his condition, Director Zhang formulated a treatment plan based on our hospital’s empirical formula for lung tumors, modified according to his symptoms, and combined with Hua’ai Xiaoliu Powder. The treatment focused on clearing heat and detoxifying, resolving phlegm and dissipating masses, strengthening vital qi to consolidate the root, and softening hard masses to disperse stagnation.
Seven days after starting the medication, Mr. Wu’s chest tightness and shortness of breath improved significantly, his coughing and phlegm decreased, and there was no longer any blood in his phlegm. His overall condition improved markedly. After continuing treatment for one month, his cough, chest tightness, and shortness of breath completely resolved. He experienced no discomfort during daily activities, and his appetite, sleep, and bowel and bladder functions were all normal. His mental state was excellent.
A recent follow‑up examination showed that the tumor in the upper lobe of his left lung had shrunk from the initial 44×34 mm to 19×17 mm. The lesion was significantly reduced, and the therapeutic effect was satisfactory.
