Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (gastrointestinal stromal tumor, GIST) are the most common mesenchymal cell tumors in the gastrointestinal tract, which are mainly caused by activated mutations of KIT and PDGFRA genes. GIST accounts for 1%-3% of all gastrointestinal tumors and is a class of tumors with malignant potential.

2. The location of gastrointestinal stromal tumors.


GIST can occur in any part of the body, any organ, but the gastrointestinal tract is the most common! At present, it is believed that about 60% occur in the stomach, about 25% in the small intestine, about 8% in the mesentery and retroperitoneum, about 5% in the colon and rectum, and about 2% in the esophagus.
