The small intestine is the longest segment of the digestive tract, and due to the significant limitations of traditional examination methods in the diagnosis of small intestinal diseases, the diagnostic rate of small intestinal diseases is very low. The emergence of capsule endoscopy has broken through the traditional thinking of mechanical insertion of endoscopes. It can observe small intestinal areas that were previously difficult for endoscopes to reach, with simple operation, no need for sedation, and minimal impact on gastrointestinal motility.
Since its clinical application was approved by the US FDA in August 2001, capsule endoscopy has become a first-line tool for diagnosing small intestinal diseases.
