Imatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is a first-line targeted therapeutic drug for GIST. Imatinib occupies the ATP binding site of KIT kinase, the signal transduction pathway of tyrosine kinase is blocked and the proliferation of GIST is inhibited.

2. How to use imatinib.

Imatinib is used as follows:

Recommended initial treatment dose: 400mg/d.

After treatment, the effect is not satisfactory. If there are no serious adverse drug reactions, the dose can be increased from 400mg/d to 600mg/d or 800mg/d.

Imatinib is an oral medicine that should be taken at the maximum daily meal and drink a large glass of water.

The drug should not be broken or crushed unless the patient has symptoms of dysphagia. If this happens, dissolve the tablet in a cup of water or apple juice.
